Hawaii - June 25

Fun times with the J family last night. Their kids didn't know (I had accidentally spilled the beans to Keeper Boy the night before, so he knew), so apparently Z's face was priceless when he saw Keeper Boy at the gate. (Uncle Hooter had to go out and sign them in as visitors to the base, and Keeper Boy went out with him.) We cooked out and hung out. They left around 9:30 or 10. They were staying on the North Shore, so they had a hike to get back to their hotel.

Today we went to the Punch Bowl. It was beautiful. I didn't know there was another national cemetery. The head stones are flush with the ground, though. Not like Arlington. When we got there, there was a ceremony going on in commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the Korean War. Pretty cool thing to stumble on. There was this guy back in the woods playing taps. I'm the only one of our group who saw him. Wish I'd gotten a picture of him actually playing. Then we walked up and saw all the pillars with the names, and found Gma G's uncle's name. He died on the Arizona in the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Then, Jenrie, Gma G, Spidey, J-Mav, and Princess P went home. Hubby, Uncle Hooter, Keeper Boy, and I hiked Diamond Head--a long dormant volcano. You drive in and park in the crater and then hike up the inside of the crater. There were a couple sets of steep steps, but it wasn't bad. The views at the top were amazing. We saw Waikiki and we saw Maui (though we didn't know that at the time because Uncle Hooter didn't tell us).

Tonight is a rest night as Hubby, Uncle Hooter, Jenrie, and I leave early tomorrow for our jaunt to Maui!
